Vesper

About

Vesper exists to do one thing: the professional tax work for international students on scholarship, at the scale of a conference or a campus.

Every year, universities across the country withhold federal tax on scholarships paid to international students. A large share of that withholding is often not taxable — qualified tuition generally is not — but it does not come back unless a nonresident return is actually filed. Most of those returns never get finished. The student is far from home. Campus staff are not tax preparers. The withheld tax sits at the IRS.

This work matters because the tax has already left the scholarship. Getting the return filed is how that money returns to the student, without asking a university to become a tax firm.
